Handicap International

Inclusive education for handicapped children in Burundi

Why should a disability stop Burundian children from going to school? Handicap International is an organisation which aims to change perceptions and stigma surrounding disabilities globally and improve the accessibility of facilities for those who are handicapped.

The goal of this project was to make mainstream schools more accessible to over 450 disabled children over its 4 year lifespan by improving infrastructure, technical aids, school supplies, home support and by providing teachers with training on the needs of young people with disabilities.

With the financial aid of the ATOZ Foundation, Handicap International actively facilitated the social inclusion of disabled children in Burundi and significantly improved their quality of life.
